Department of Gastrosciences — Gupta Multispeciality Hospital, Jaipur

What the Department of Gastrosciences does

Our Gastrosciences department focuses on the health of the entire digestive system — from the food pipe and stomach to the liver, pancreas and intestines. If you’re worried about persistent stomach pain, reflux, unexplained weight loss, chronic constipation or yellowing of the eyes, this is the team that will listen, investigate carefully, and map out a practical plan tailored to you.

Conditions we treat

We treat a wide range of gastrointestinal and liver problems, including:

  • Acid reflux (GERD), heartburn and dyspepsia
  • Peptic ulcer disease and gastritis
  • Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and chronic constipation or diarrhea
  • Inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis)
  • Hepatitis, fatty liver disease and other liver disorders
  • Pancreatitis and biliary (gallbladder/ bile duct) conditions
  • Gastrointestinal bleeding and anemia related to GI causes
  • Screening and surveillance for colorectal cancer

Services and procedures (practical, patient-focused)

We combine outpatient assessment with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures so most patients get answers quickly:

Endoscopy & Diagnostic Procedures

  • Upper GI endoscopy (OGD / gastroscopy) — direct look at throat, oesophagus and stomach to spot inflammation, ulcers, or growths.
  • Colonoscopy — bowel inspection and polyp removal when needed; recommended screening for people with risk factors or symptoms.
  • Capsule endoscopy — a small swallow able camera for hard-to-reach small bowel problems.
  • Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) — for stones, strictures or leaks in bile and pancreatic ducts.
  • Motility testing and breath tests — for reflux, bloating or suspected bacterial overgrowth.

Liver and Pancreas Care

  • Targeted evaluation for hepatitis, fatty liver and abnormal liver blood tests.
  • Non-invasive fibrosis testing and image-guided procedures when required.

Supportive services

  • Nutritional counselling and diet plans for reflux, IBS and fatty liver.
  • Pain management, anaemia correction pathways, and coordinated care with surgery when needed.

Our approach — simple, transparent, practical

We start with a focused history and a short set of tests that make sense for your symptoms — not a long laundry list. Diagnostics are explained in plain language, with options and expected benefits discussed before any procedure. Whenever invasive tests are recommended, we explain alternatives, recovery time and likely outcomes so you can make an informed choice.

We work closely with radiology, pathology and surgery teams within the hospital to avoid delays. Most procedures are done in dedicated endoscopy suites with monitored recovery areas and strict infection-control protocols.

When to see a gastroenterologist (red flags and common triggers)

Please seek specialist care if you have any of the following:

  • Persistent or worsening abdominal pain lasting more than two weeks
  • Recurrent vomiting, difficulty swallowing, or weight loss without explanation
  • Blood in stool or black tarry stools, or fainting/ lightheadedness with known anemia
  • Jaundice (yellowing of eyes/skin) or dark urine and pale stools
  • New, unexplained change in bowel habits after age 40

For routine concerns such as occasional heartburn or mild bloating, book a clinic visit so we can guide tests and simple lifestyle steps first.
