Department of Pulmonology & Chest Diseases — Gupta Multispecialty Hospital, Jaipur

Our team is dedicated to help patients breathe easier. We understand that lung and chest problems can be frightening, and we take the time to listen and explain things clearly. At Gupta Multispecialty Hospital, our pulmonologists are committed to guiding you through diagnosis and treatment with empathy and expertise.

Conditions We Treat

In our Pulmonology & Chest Diseases department, we treat a wide range of breathing and lung conditions. These include:

  • Asthma: A chronic condition causing wheezing, tightness in the chest, and shortness of breath.
  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD): Often related to smoking, causing long-term breathing difficulty (including emphysema and chronic bronchitis).
  • Tuberculosis (TB): A bacterial lung infection that requires careful diagnosis and treatment.
  • Lung infections: Such as pneumonia and bronchitis, which can affect anyone but sometimes need specialized care.
  • Bronchitis: Both acute and chronic forms, leading to cough and mucus production.
  • Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD): A group of disorders (like pulmonary fibrosis) that cause lung scarring and stiffness.
  • Obstructive Sleep Apnea: A sleep-related breathing disorder where airflow stops briefly during sleep, causing daytime tiredness and other health issues.
  • Other chest conditions: Including pulmonary hypertension and complications of illnesses (like lung involvement in COVID-19 or effects of severe allergies).

Each patient’s case is unique, so we create a personalized treatment plan for every condition we see.

Diagnostic Tools and Tests

With a proper diagnosis as first step makes the treatment more effective. In our department, we use modern tools to find the cause of your symptoms:

  • Pulmonary Function Test (PFT) / Spirometry: These simple breathing tests measure how well your lungs work. They help us diagnose asthma, COPD, and other lung problems.
  • Chest X-ray: A quick, painless imaging test that shows lung structure and can detect infections, fluid, or other issues.
  • Computed Tomography (CT) Scan: A detailed imaging scan of the lungs to see nodules, fibrosis, or other conditions that a regular X-ray might miss.
  • Bronchoscopy: A minor procedure where a thin camera is passed into the airways to look directly at the lungs and collect samples if needed. It is usually done with mild sedation for comfort.
  • Allergy Testing: Skin or blood tests to check for allergens that might trigger asthma or other respiratory symptoms.
  • Sleep Studies (Polysomnography): Overnight monitoring of breathing patterns to diagnose sleep apnea and related disorders.
  • Arterial Blood Gas (ABG) Analysis: A blood test that measures oxygen and carbon dioxide levels to check how well your lungs exchange gases (used when breathing problems are severe).

Each of these tests is explained fully before you undergo it, so you know what to expect.

When to See a Pulmonologist

When breathing issues persist or worsen. One should consider seeing a pulmonologist if experiencing:

  • A persistent cough lasting more than a few weeks, especially if it is getting worse.
  • Shortness of breath that limits your daily activities or comes on suddenly.
  • Chronic wheezing or noisy breathing that doesn’t improve with usual treatments.
  • Frequent chest infections: Having pneumonia or bronchitis several times a year.
  • Daytime fatigue or loud snoring: These could be signs of sleep apnea.
  • Unexplained weight loss or loss of appetite combined with respiratory symptoms.
  • Red flags: Any of the following warrants immediate attention:
    • Coughing up blood.
    • Severe chest pain or pressure when breathing.
    • High fever with difficulty breathing.
    • Sudden, severe shortness of breath at rest.

If you notice these symptoms in yourself or a loved one, please don’t delay getting evaluated. Early diagnosis often leads to better outcomes.
